Beau Benson - Conductor / Artistic Director

Beau Benson is in his fifth season as Music Director/Conductor for the Oregon East Symphony and Chorale. He also serves as the conductor for the Waco Symphony Youth Orchestra and Director of Orchestras for the Midway Independent School District in Waco. Concurrent to his first two years in Waco, Dr. Benson served as Principal Conductor for the Metroplex Opera in Dallas, Texas, following three seasons as Music Director/Conductor of the Mason Orchestral Society in Mason, Michigan. In addition to his work as a conductor, Dr. Benson has appeared extensively as a soloist on the classical guitar, and his compositions have been heard around the world.
Beau Benson received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Orchestral Conducting at Michigan State University. He received his Masters degree in Orchestral Conducting from Southern Methodist University, where he also earned bachelors degrees in classical guitar performance and music education. He currently lives in Waco, Tx with his wife Amy and their daughter Loïe and twin sons Henry and Charles.

Bruce Walker - Assistant Symphony Conductor, Conductor of the A Sharp Players

St. Louis, Missouri native, Bruce Walker, currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music at Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Washington. He is also Music Director for the Yakima Youth Symphony Orchestra, and as Cover Conductor for the Yakima Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Walker has previously served as Director of Orchestral Activities for the Sunnyside School District in Sunnyside, Washington, Conductor for the Kittitas Valley Youth Orchestra, Co-conductor of the Ellensburg Campus-Community Orchestra, Director of the Central Washington University Music Preparatory Strings Program, and cello/conducting intern for the Marrowstone Music Festival. 

Mr. Walker holds baccalaureate degrees in Music Education and Cello Performance from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a master degrees in Performance studying Orchestral Conducting and Cello Performance from Central Washington University. His primary teachers have been Kangho Lee and John Michel (cello) and Dr. Jeffery Meyer, Michael Jinbo, Dr. Nikolas Caoile, Kenneth Woods, and Lawrence Golan (conducting). When not on the podium, he can be found enjoying time outside around his BBQ pit and smoker and having people sample his new creations.

Steve Muller - Assistant Choral Conductor

Steve Muller is a retired music teacher from Pendleton. He has a Master’s degree in Music from the University of Oregon (emphasis in conducting and bass trombone) and bachelor’s degrees from Eastern Oregon University in Music and Secondary Education. Steve spent 37 years as a player and then director of the Happy Canyon Pit Orchestra, and has regularly played trombone with OES since its beginning. He has also performed regularly as a vocalist with the Pendleton Men’s Chorus, Consort Columbia, BMCC community theater musicals, and as a soloist with OES. Steve retired from the Pendleton School District in 2010 after teaching Band, Choir, and Elementary Music. He is currently the Chancel Choir Director at the Pendleton Presbyterian church.
