Young Artist Competition

The Oregon East Symphony is pleased to announce its 2015 Young Artist Competition.
The winner of the YAC will be selected to perform with OES on its children’s concert on October 2nd, 2015. You will find detailed competition guidelines below and a list of approved repertoire for competition here.


Contest Guidelines


Eligibility

The 2015 Oregon East Symphony (OES) Young Artist competition will be open to instrumental and vocal music students who on October 2, 2015 have neither reached their 19th birthday nor graduated from high school.

The contest will be open to residents of the following counties: Baker, Grant, Morrow, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa.


Repertoire

Students must audition on the repertoire they intend to perform, should they be selected as a winner. To ensure the availability of performance materials and requisite instrumental forces, repertoire must be chosen from the approved repertoire list OR MUST BE APPROVED BY OES STAFF prior to entry submission. The OES reserves the right to accept or reject repertoire as it deems necessary. Selections must be no longer than 10 minutes in duration, unless given special approval by the OES staff.



Judging

Round 1: Video Round

As part of the entry form (see below), entrants will submit a link to an online streaming video of themselves performing their approved repertoire with piano accompaniment.

Judges will select no more than 3 finalists to compete in the second round. Finalists will be notified of their status on or before April 17, 2015.

Round 2: Live Audition

Finalists will perform live with piano accompaniment before the panel of judges on Saturday, April 25, 2015 in Pendleton, Oregon at the Vert Auditorium. Finalists will be responsible for providing their own accompanist.


Prizes

The judging panel will select one entrant to perform with the OES on its children’s concert on October 2, 2015 at the Vert Auditorium. The judges reserve the right not to declare a winner, should they decide that none of the contestants display the artistic level required to be a soloist with a symphony orchestra. The decision of the judging panel is final. Contestants and winners are responsible their own travel expenses.
